Not only is Matt the best trainer with whom I’ve ever had the pleasure of working, but he is an amazing person who truly cares about his clients! He does not believe in trying to fit a square peg in a round hole – what works for one person may not work for another. And with me, a generic approach would not have worked, so I’m lucky to have found him! I didn’t actually start lifting weights until I joined the bobsleigh team in September ’05, and the following year I started to struggle with some nagging injuries. Fortunately, it was then that I was introduced to Matt and we started working together between my various tours. My primary goal at that time was rehab, as it continued to be as I broke my shoulder in a rugby game the following spring. However, I needed to continue to train within the context of two very physically-demanding sports, and traditional rehabilitation would not have cut it. I needed to be more than simply “pain-free”. I needed to be able to push a 400-lbs bobsleigh and tackle the biggest girl on the rugby field without hesitation. I needed to go from 6 seconds of power in bobsleigh to 80 minutes of endurance in rugby. Besides formulating an exciting, ever-changing, challenging, sport-specific training program for me, I was blown away by Matt’s talent at modifying exercises for my injuries to achieve the same purpose, without compromising the intensity required for my sports! Matt has been a critical part of my successful return to World Cup bobsleigh and will continue to help me improve as an elite athlete. He is an amazing trainer and a genuine person, and I consider myself very lucky to have worked with him.

There’s nothing more personally satisfying in my professional life than the rehabilitation work we do with our injured clients. To be able to work together with someone, to help them regain their health and return to their profession or the medal podium, gives me a profound sense of fulfillment. In a sense, this is the Engine Room of our practice, where value meets personal joy.

And, we have some incredible success stories of athletes who were told they’d never return to their sport. Everyday athletes who’d assumed they were destined for a life of pain and discomfort. Of course, I want to help you “get back”, but I’m committed to having you come back better than ever before.

I began working with Matt to help me rehabilitate my hamstring after sustaining two tears in less than a year. Not only was I able to get back to the level that I was at before my injuries but I came back faster than ever, setting a new personal best one year later.

Although our gym has become synonymous for the number of successful professional athletes we train, we’re equally proud of having developed an incredible amateur training program. Long-term athlete development is one of my personal passions. Young athletes are not just short adults and they require a different plan and approach. We have created a program designed specifically for the appropriate age, stage and goals of our clients. My dream in creating this program was not simply to train our clients to achieve their athletic goals but to TEACH them the skills they’ll need to achieve a lifetime of health and happiness through proper exercise, nutrition and lifestyle habits.

I've been training with Matt since I was in Junior and it’s been a true privilege to train here. Matt and his staff make it fun to come to the gym every day and make it feel like a true family environment.

There's no maintenance...you're either getting better, or you're getting worse.

Why work hard all summer only to see those gains slip away over the course of a long season. We offer daily in-season training sessions to make sure that you keep improving. In-season training differs dramatically from off-season training and involves a small commitment of time—for 40-60min—can yield tremendous benefits.

Our thirteen year old son was a part of Matt Nichol’s after school program at St Mikes. It was a terrific experience for him. He noticed gains almost immediately. Our son was moving better, was quicker, faster, stronger, and was being educated and taught how to train and eat properly. His overall confidence took off. He trained twice a week on days he didn’t have a hockey practice, however when a last minute practice was planned the staff (Francesca usually sometimes Matt) was very helpful to quickly re schedule our son’s workout. Our son asked us if he could do more however he just didn’t have time in his busy schedule. As parents we were comfortable that he went directly to the gym after school and we knew that he would be looked after.

Who is this person? Our clients are those who have, a while ago or a long time ago, known the thrill of conditioning and competition. That thrill lives forever, no matter the condition of the body. We work with those men and women who have the desire to return to fitness—not necessarily to compete—to feel that exuberance and vitality again. Essentially, to once again feel the thrill of peak performance. Most importantly, when these athletes work out next to a young professional athlete, they are never looked upon as less than, or not as good as—they are looked upon as fellow travelers, athletes all. Moreover, you’ll find this juxtaposition inspiring.  

You’ll have access to the same fitness and strength training team that helps our Professional and Olympic athletes achieve their world class performances. 

The purpose of this program is to build the athletic skills that will serve as the foundation for future success in sport.

This program was created to address the needs of the young athlete who is not yet old enough or otherwise not interested in the Elite Off-Season program. This is NOT a hockey specific training program because that’s NOT what’s best for athletes at this stage of development. This program is designed to enhance general athleticism and to teach these young athletes the skills and habits that will be required for success at the next level.  The program is open to boys or girls between the ages of 12-15 regardless of their sport.

My son Cameron has been training at Paragenix with Matt Nichol and his team for the past six years. He started in the “Young Guns program” after school and it was a great introduction to Matt’s program and his staff. For the past three years he has trained in the “Junior off Season Program”. Matt and his
knowledgeable staff have had my son prepared for the upcoming season each and every year. Matt’s instructors know how to bring out the best in each and every athlete growing their confidence while ensuring they are training correctly to avoid injury. The program has a nutritional component and the
on ice program is run by elite skill development personal. Matt is at the gym daily overseeing the program and you can see that he really cares about his clients. I appreciate everything Matt and his staff has done for my son and I highly recommend the program.
